Avatar is a 2009 US science fiction epic movie written and directed by renowned film director James Cameron. Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang play the leading roles. The term "avatar" has its origins in Indian mythology. It is "god's visit to Earth to fix something that is broken". Vishnu, one of the 3 gods shielding creation, visits Earth often. In Hindu mythology Vishnu is depicted dark-blue. Having been possibly inspired by Hindu mythology, Cameron has also decided to make the aliens blue. Set in the year 2154 on an alien planet called Pandora placed the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar film tells the timeless story of gluttony, immaturity and the violence that arises out of ignorance. The plot of the story revolves around a soldier - Jack - who is sent to Pandora the planet placed in the Alpha Centauri star system in order to help The Corporation intending to mine and export a precious mineral called unobtainium. The Na'vi are the alien sentient humonoid species thriving on Pandora. They are a part of a big symbiotic living system that comprises both animals and plants which are all connected by an intricate biological interaction network. The Corporation intends to mine the planet and the Na'vi fight for their fatherland. The growth and expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of the local tribe. While on a mission, Jake is taken in by the Na'vi and gets acquainted with their culture, language and habitat. Natirii, the female Na'vi he meets, helps him through this trip. Avatars are biological creatures made from alien and human DNA. They are not self-aware and are controlled by a human being from whose DNA they were made. The soldier takes control of an avatar made from his brother's DNA. Avatar is an idealistic film showing an ideal world. The ending is particularly touching. The visual effects are spectacular. The alien world Cameron and his professional team present to the viewer is one of the most thought-out and consistent. The film is worth viewing.
