What makes a great wedding reception? A relaxing atmosphere great food, drinks and a party but planning is the most important things of all. The cost of the wedding day used to be the responsibility of the bride’s family, however you are now seeing the wedding costs being met by the couples themselves, the wedding reception is the biggest cost of the whole day so getting everything planned and agreed to budget is the way to go. You should plan your reception as soon as you set the date for the wedding, keep in mind that popular venues may be booked up months even up to a year in advance, so don’t delay. Why consider a buffet as your wedding breakfast? You should celebrate your wedding in the style that you want and also you can afford, don’t spend thousands of dollars if you haven’t got it. Your friends and family are coming to see you on your special day, they will enjoy it more in a relaxed atmosphere with great food rather than a posh venue where the may feel uncomfortable. A sit down meal of 5 courses with fine wines is lovely, but if your friends and family is not the ‘fine dining type’ wouldn’t they enjoy a good outdoor buffet and party instead? Should you intermingle the families and friends of the bride and groom or surround everyone with familiar faces? The top table structure is pretty much set with the bride and groom centre then the immediate families of each, whether you choose to sit partners together or split them up and put them with each other’s partners is up to you. Just go with whatever you feel the guests will be happier with. If you’re wedding does a pretty intimate affair with most of the guests know each other it’s easier to just tell people to sit where they please, or give them a table number and let them sort out where they want to sit, if however you’re having a fairly large wedding reception, a formal plan is a good idea? Everyone knows where they will be and you can try and avoid seating people together who don’t really get on. Preparing a good seating plan is not easy and takes longer than you may think, you need a good knowledge of your guests so best to do it as a couple, each family knows it’s self better than any outsider, so don't risk sitting your favorite aunt next to the loud brash brother in law that every family seems to have. Also remember, weddings bring relatives together that don’t always get a chance to see each other, so give them a chance to catch up. As for the table sizes, some people go for a long top table with further tables coming off each side at a right angle to form a 3 sided rectangle, think medieval banquets. Others go for individual round tables. Remember to discuss with your venue or caterer as to which you prefer, they may only offer one option. If you have chosen a formal setting plan, print off a plan and have it at the entrance so people know where they will be sitting, rather than having everyone just wandering around looking for their name on a little card on the table. One last thing to consider.. If you are getting married in the summer months a late afternoon wedding reception may be best to avoid the heat of the day, but be sure to check with the venue/local licensing board as to what time alcohol and music is allowed Wedding bbq was formed in 2010 by the owner and founder of Dallas Pit BBQ, an award winning barbecue catering service covering the Dallas Fort Worth metro area.
