Missouri Meth Addiction and Treatment

With all the studies and theories behind the meth addiction problem in Missouri, one thing has proven time and again effective in its treatment. Long term drug rehabilitation programs are much more successful. The National Institute of Drug Abuse agrees. Long term addiction treatment programs have higher success rates, specifically with meth addiction. In Missouri there were 4,375 admissions into rehab centers for meth addiction through November of 2010. In 1993 there were less than 200 admissions. These numbers hit an all time high in 2005 reaching over 6,000. State funded substance abuse treatment facilities rely heavily on the allocation from the state budget and currently this totals $8.3 million dollars a year for methamphetamine addiction treatment alone. Suffice to say it would pay to get it right the first time around. The National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) has found that addicts should stay in treatment an adequate amount of time and has found that the toxic effects of drugs on the brain can take 90-100 days to abate. These toxic effects contribute directly to depression, anxiety and mood swings. Any gains with counseling are hampered by these negative physical effects and directly related to the psychological issues. What it takes to rehabilitate an addict varies with each individual, the circumstances surrounding the addiction and associated problems that come with it. Success in rehabilitation and length of treatment depends on the drug habit and severity of addiction. Programs shorter than 90 days rarely achieve long-term recovery without relapse. Many shorter term treatment programs in Missouri are known to diagnose psychiatric disorders and prescribe mind altering addictive drugs as part of the therapy program. This can lead to more difficulties and addiction down the road to those drugs. The dependency on drugs, chemicals to altar the state of the individual has not been handled so the probability of perpetuating the addiction problem is likely. A typical 28 day Missouri drug rehab is not able to handle all of the issues surrounding addiction in the addict's life. Unfortunately this is about all more insurance policies will allow for which influence the amount of time an addict can stay in treatment. Outpatient programs or sober living houses are sought as a means to continue the rehabilitation and bring to the addict to the level of self-respect and responsibility that should be achieved prior to leaving any facility. In most traditional forms of treatment programs, a typical 28 day treatment programs has about a 2% chance of recovery for meth addiction. Long-term drug rehabs of at least 90 days or longer increase the odds of permanent addiction many times over. In overcoming meth addiction drug rehabs in Missouri that are three months or longer have much higher chance of success.
