How To Find A Good Moving Company When you start looking for a good moving company, what should you look for? There are a number of ways to find a good moving company, and several things to look for to protect yourself and your belongings. Internet Obviously, check the internet for movers in your area. The internet has almost taken the place of the yellow pages, and you’ll find area movers with some pretty good information about their qualifications, moving quotes, and services. If you want to find a good moving company, the internet will be a great resource for a moving company, because you may also find some mover reviews through Craig’s List. Local Advertisements Have you seen moving and storage advertised in your area? Check them out. Maybe you’ve seen an ad in the phone book or on a billboard. Paying a visit to their headquarters will give you an idea of their commitment to taking care of things, including your belongings. Even if they’re not on the internet, yet, check them out—carefully. Qualifications Do not hire movers and packers who do not have these three certificates: Insurance, Bonding, and Licensing. If he does not have even one of these items, he’s not qualified to handle or transport your belongings. Don’t let him talk you into anything. Yes, your homeowner’s insurance will cover any damages to your things, but you’ll still have to pay the deductible. Even if the mover says he’ll take care of it, if it’s not in writing, it’s not going to happen. The key to finding a good mover is proper certification. See what services they offer. If they will come into your house and pack your individual items, are they trained in handling delicate or rare items? You don’t want your Hummel figurines broken, or your gun collection to disappear. If you’re moving from one state to another, make sure they are licensed to move your things straight to your new home, and won’t have to take an expensive—and costly—detour. References Ask for references. And, follow up on the references. It’s amazing how many people will give references to non-existent clients or those with negative reviews, playing the hunch that you’ll never follow up. Find out if the person’s items arrived on time and unbroken. Were the employees clean and professional? For instance, if you’re a non-smoker, you don’t want workers taking a cigarette break on your sofa out on the lawn. If you’re trying to find a good moving company, don’t be shy about asking questions and getting answers. Your items should be handled professionally. With the right moving company, your worries and your move will not be nearly so traumatic.
