"For decades, if you wanted to ship a car, you had to depend on a tow company. They would hoist or drive your car onto a flatbed, even if you were had to ship a car for long distances. This was very costly for the consumer, because he had to pay the car transport company for mileage both ways. Things have certainly changed with auto transport since then. In the past, your car would sit in the yard of the towing company before car shipping until they had time to get to it. Now, auto transport vehicles can carry up to ten cars at a time on the car carrier. However, one thing hasn’t changed much when it comes to auto shipping, and that’s preparation. Here are some things to keep in mind after reviewing your auto shipping quotes, as you prepare to ship a car to ride on a car carrier. When you ship a car, your car won’t necessarily be loaded onto a vehicle transport trailer, go directly to its destination, and be off loaded. It may actually undergo one or two changes of auto transport vehicles on its journey. There are times when your car may sit in the vehicle shipping yard for a day or two, until the next auto transport arrives. When you think about how many people will be driving and handling your vehicle when auto shipping, the circumstances under which it may be left unattended, and the opportunities people will have to break into your car during vehicle transport, it’s not surprising that the car transport companies don’t want you to leave any personal belongings in your car when vehicle transport occurs. Not only do they want to avoid the liability, they don’t want to attract thieves who would start targeting vehicle transport yards. Of course, personal items such as a CD case, an iPod, or any dash-mounted device are obviously excluded when your car transport. But there are many more items that a vehicle shipping company will not allow in the car during car shipping. In fact, if any of these items are present, they will refuse to ship a car. These items include food, which can attract wild animals to the car carrier. A raccoon can climb up under the hood of your car, shredding hoses and belts and doing all kinds of mechanical damage trying to get into the car. A bear can do far worse. Just remember, the car will be sitting in a parked auto transport trailer for about ½ of the time it’s away from you for car transport. The vehicle shipping company will not ship a car if they know you have any valuables in it. The obvious reason is that it would attract thieves, and your items will not be covered by the company’s insurance policy. No fragile items are allowed in your car. The car will not be on a gentle journey and every pothole and railroad track the car carrier crosses will be telegraphed to your car during vehicle transport. Fragile items will be broken, and the auto transport company doesn’t want the liability. And, of course, no guns or explosives can be packed into your car during car shipping Each vehicle shipping company has its own policies, so when you get your auto shipping quote get a list of their policies, too.
